Gennady Skurtul appointed as KFF technical director

The new technical director is responsible for the supervision of children's, youth, women's and grassroots football, as well as the coordination of the youth national teams.
Among the key tasks is the development and comprehensive support of the programme of elite youth football, including projects based on the KFF Academy.
Also a priority is the formation and implementation of educational programmes for coaches, instructors and specialists in accordance with the provisions of the UEFA Coaching Convention 2025. An important direction will be the creation of a sustainable system for identifying and training talented players in all age categories.
Special attention will be paid to methodological support and professional development of national team coaches.
At the same time, work will be done to develop women's football, including its institutional strengthening. A separate set of tasks relates to the coordination of grassroots football, with a focus on engaging the widest possible audience and adapting competition formats to different age and social groups.
In addition, the technical director will be responsible for ensuring that all technical programmes implemented comply with FIFA and UEFA international standards.
Gennady Scurtul played for the Moldovan national youth team, as well as for the football clubs ''Nistru'', ''Zimbru'' and ''Tighina'' (all in Moldova). From 1998 to 2005, he was a football referee and inspector of the Moldovan Football Federation.
From 2006 to 2008, he worked as deputy director for coach education, grassroots manager and expert on sporting criteria in the club licensing system of the Moldovan Football Federation.
From 2009 to 2017, he worked as technical director of the Moldovan Football Federation.
Since 2012, he has worked as UEFA technical instructor, member of the UEFA Coaching Education Commission and consultant for grassroots football.
From 2017 to 2025, he worked as technical adviser to the Georgian Football Federation.
From 2018 to 2020, Gennady Skurtul made a significant contribution to the development of domestic football, working as a consultant for the Technical Centre of the Kazakhstan Football Federation.
From 2019 to 2020, he was a technical expert for FIFA.
Gennady Skurtul has extensive experience and significant achievements in the field of technical development of football and coaching education. He was involved in the creation and implementation of the coaching education system of the Moldovan and Georgian football federations - from the ‘C’ category licence to full membership of the UEFA Coaching Convention, and prepared all the educational programmes for this system.
As coordinator of the Open Recreational Schools project, he achieved the recognition of this project as the best in Europe in the field of grassroots football in 2008. Under his leadership, the Moldovan Football Federation obtained the highest status in the UEFA Grassroots Football.
From 2013 to 2018, Gennady Skurtul worked as UEFA technical observer at the U-17 and U-19 national team finals, and in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 he fulfilled similar functions at the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League matches. In 2015, 2020 and 2025 he was part of the working group for the editing of the UEFA Coaching Convention and is a member of the UEFA working group for the Coach Educator Development programme.
Since 2014 he has been a UEFA consultant on grassroots football, coach education and technical development, providing expertise to the national associations of Bulgaria, Slovakia, Romania, Russia, Belarus, Serbia, Latvia, Lithuania, Georgia, Montenegro, Armenia, the Netherlands, Ireland and Scotland.
In addition, he actively participates in various UEFA technical development groups and regularly acts as a trainer at key UEFA coaching education conferences.
