Match Incidents Clarifications – Premier League Round 21 (According to the Laws of the Game)

Turan vs. Kaysar
Min 71 – Inside the home team penalty area, away player 9 is running with the ball in his front. Home defender 6 challenges for the ball and attacking player deliberately tries to make contact with opponent's leg/foot and then clearly simulates a foul falling down. The referee, although well positioned, wrongly assesses the incident and incorrectly awards a penalty kick and a yellow card to the defender.
Correct intervention from VAR after having checked the incident, advising the referee for an on field review, as no foul has been committed.
Correct final decision from referee to cancel the penalty kick, disallow the yellow card to the defender and to show yellow card to attacker for attempting to deceive the referee.
Min 90+2 – Inside the away team penalty area, home defender 25 challenges for the ball with attacker 2, jumping to head the ball. The defender jumped first and higher and he played the ball with his head. Only after that there is a normal contact also as a consequence of the attacker's jump. There is no movement by the defender with his arm in opponents’ direction and this is normal play. The referee well positioned correctly allows play to continue.
Correct no intervention from VAR after having checked the incident.
Correct final decision from referee.
Qyzylzhar vs. Zhenis
Min 46 – Close to the center circle, when away player 19 was running with the ball in his front, home player 22 makes a sliding tackle and commits a reckless challenge against his opponent. He jumps with his legs straight and hits his opponent with some intensity on his legs. The referee correctly shows him a yellow card and as this player had previously seen yellow card, he has been correctly sent off.
This situation is out of IFAB VAR protocol as the episode is related to a (second) yellow card.
Correct final decision from referee.
