The Kazakhstan Football Federation has approved the introduction of the Hawk-Eye VAR system, one of the world’s leading providers of video assistant referee technology.

The project will be implemented with funding from FIFA under the FIFA Forward programme. The decision to allocate financing for the implementation of this project was taken at a FIFA meeting held in Doha, Qatar.

The Hawk-Eye VAR system is used at UEFA and FIFA international competitions, including the FIFA World Cup, the UEFA European Championship and the UEFA Champions League, and is also applied in a number of leading European domestic leagues, including the English Premier League and Serie A.

During the negotiations, optimal financial terms for the implementation of the project were agreed. The total cost of the rollout was reduced by more than USD 1.1 million compared to the initial commercial proposals.

The project provides the implementation of VAR technology in full compliance with FIFA and UEFA international standards, the use of certified offside lines, the provision of matches with the required technical equipment, as well as the training and preparation of specialised personnel. In addition, the project lays the foundation for a subsequent transition to a centralised VAR system.

The introduction of this system will represent an important milestone in the development of refereeing infrastructure and is aimed at improving the overall quality of football competitions in Kazakhstan.
