KFF Launches VAR Training Program for First League Referees
The training seminar is being held in Astana and is aimed at the phased preparation of referees for working with VAR technology in official competitions. Participants include referees who officiated First League matches last season, as well as newcomers who have been already included in the Premier League list this year
The training program is structured in stages and includes theoretical sessions, practical on-field training with players and the analysis of match situations, hands-on work with the VAR system using a dedicated simulator, as well as practical experience during short-format and full friendly matches with the application of VAR technology.
Over the next two days, participants will complete the theoretical module under the guidance of KFF VAR instructor Leonid Kaloshin. Particular attention is paid to the VAR protocol, communication between match officials, decision-making, and consistency in the interpretation of match incidents.
The program is being implemented as part of KFF’s strategic plan for the development of refereeing. By the end of 2026, it is planned that all First League referees will complete the training and obtain VAR licensing, ensuring unified refereeing standards and enhancing the overall quality of match officiating at the national level.
